Organized Chaos

Social Media and Event Branding

Project Overview

For American University’s annual design show, I created a visual system that embraces the humor, intensity, and creativity inside a designer’s mind. The design uses hand-drawn illustrations and playful visual metaphors to capture the “organized chaos” behind design work—coffee, tech tools, random inspiration, and yes… the occasional tears.

Conceptual Direction

This event branding system was inspired by the idea of the designer’s mind as an imaginative space that looks different for everyone. Each designer carries their own mix of tools, inspirations, habits, and quirks, yet there are underlying threads that tie all creatives together. The visuals celebrate that blend of individuality and shared experience, highlighting both the personal chaos and the collective rhythm that fuel the design process.

The hand-drawn illustration style reflects the organic, messy, and nonlinear process that defines art and design, celebrating the imperfections and experiments that happen before polished work emerges. Using interconnected sketches of tech equipment, lab tools, coffee cups, and humorous nods like “human tears,” the visuals form a whimsical machine that mirrors how designers process ideas. These materials balance playful chaos with structured typography and clean layouts, creating a system that feels both expressive and cohesive.
